About this Website
If you wandered into this website but were looking for translation services, there's good news and bad news. The bad news first: this is not the place. The good news, however, is that the author is the founder of and operates a company that might be able to help you, Kirameki Translations, Inc.
William Lise, translator and openly curmudgeon long-term resident in Japan.
Repetition of Content I have Posted Elsewhere
Because of the fragmented nature of the content I have posted elsewhere, and the difficulty for even me to search for all of that content, some of that content will inevitably wind up here, where it can enjoy a longer life and be more easily found.
Trigger Warning: This Website is Free of Trigger Warnings and Provides no Safe Spaces
Some readers might have their "experiences invalidated" by the truths presented on this website. Some of the content here might be particularly distressing to certain readers. High-risk readers include certain types of Japanophiles, but also include many types of people who have been sleepwalking for long periods without awakening to what is going on around them.
Low-Tech Methods Used
Although an occasional graphic is used that was created with Illustrator, all the HTML pages here were created with nothing more exciting than the simple text editors on my computers. No WSYIWYG editors, no website creation software, and no CMS. Initially, I might try to reinstate my blog. But a blog run on a proprietary software product (such as Wordpress) constitutes technical lock-in, something to which I have a gut aversion. If the blog appears to be more trouble (and lock-in risky), I will quickly switch over to a more generic environment for content presentation.
After having been stricken with a sudden attack of common sense, I have drastically reduced my presence and level of engagement on Facebook and participate in no other social media.
